Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mural?

A mural is a painting of artistic expression painted directly on an alternative surface other than canvas, such as an interior or exterior wall or other surface. Generally, murals are not framed. Indoor murals are most commonly painted using acrylic. But also, latex and oils (generally in plaster as it dries faster) can be used. A mural can also be painted on canvas or other surface and then installed onto a wall. [Mid-16th century. Via French from Latin muralis , from murus “wall” (source also of English immure).]Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 2014 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

What's the time frame and how long does it take to paint a mural?

A mural can take anywhere from a couple days to one week for a small mural to one month for a wall or a room to 6 months or more for very large walls or other projects. CITY LINE ART has done projects that take 2 years to complete.  The artists enjoy seeing the process unveil from the first consultation of a new project to the planning and work to the finishing touches.

What's the process for a mural?

After a free consultation at the site, home or business. A sketch of the idea or project is presented to you, the client, and then the process begins after approval of the concept. CITY LINE ART artists work with your schedule. Although we like to work any hour of the day; you usually won't see us very early in the morning unless you prefer this.

What if we have a busy workplace or home?

The artists prefers to work with an empty room, hallway, etc., or at least an area where the furniture has been removed from the area of work. But, there is no problem with working around customers of a business, residents of nursing facilities, or children at a school, etc. Being personable and comfortable around others is a fun part of the process. How is the mural protected? Our goal is to brighten the world with any wall we can paint on!

How do we care for the mural work?

CITY LINE ART protects the artwork with two layers of matte finish glaze. This glaze dries in less than one hour depending on the humidity in the air.The wall or ceiling, etc. may be washed with warm soapy water to clean with no harm to the artwork.

What does a mural cost?

Cost is determined by the square footage of a wall and the number of walls / ceilings +plus the estimated time to completion +plus sales tax. The artist quotes reasonable prices and assures clients how long the creative process may take. The artist estimates the time to finish the project. If the project takes longer by the artist then there is no additional costs.

Generally, prices range from $12 to $25 a square foot, depending on the size and quantity of the jobs. After a deposit, the remaining balance up to $1,000.00 is due upon completion of work and clean-up is finished. A request is made that projects over $1,000.00 be paid in two, three or more installments (bi-weekly or monthly) after the deposit. Balance may be paid with Cash, Check, Credit or Debit & Paypal accounts. Deposits of $100.00 TO 1/3 (whichever is greater) of the total estimate is preferred by CITY LINE ART before work begins when the legal binding contract is signed. Deposits may be made with Cash, Check, Credit & Debit Cards & Paypal accounts.

Any artist mistakes will be incurred by the artist and no additional cost will be incurred by the customer. Any problems or challenges will be made right.  *********
